Transylvania, a land of legendary history, hides a secret – a greenish-blue lake in the Nera Gorges. Capturing the surreal beauty of the Devil’s Lake, Peren emphasises on the mystery behind its ethereal existence deeply rooted into the mythology of Transylvania.
Developed in collaboration with a Red Dot Design award-winning company from Switzerland, the Peren Nera is a neo-vintage watch with modern features. Its dial reflects the greenish-blue tone of the Devil’s Lake while the chapter ring draws inspiration from the jagged edges of the surrounding caves. The three-tone execution of the watch case features a sandblasted top bezel and a brushed black PVD coated rotating bezel, representing the fusion of the rugged environment around the Lake.
At its most fundamental, the Peren Nera is a rugged diver watch with a 200-metres rating featuring three hands – hour, minute and second – and a simple date window at the three o’clock position. Wordings are kept at minimal to show off the beauty of the dial with painted markers laid out uniformly. The hands and markers are all filled with Superluminova BGW9.
One of the best feature on the dial is the chapter ring which shrouds every hour marker. Instead of the typical arabic numerals, every marker on the rotatable bezel is raised, providing both functionality in rotating the bezel and indicating the intervals. True to its tool watch roots, the drilled lugs makes it more practical to change out the straps for different occasions. The 20mm lug width ensures compatible with most straps available on the market.
The Peren Nera is extremely wearable with a 39mm case diameter and thickness of 13.5mm, finished with a domed sapphire crystal. Flipping it over, the ETA 2824-2 is observable through the sapphire crystal case back which does not impede its diving capabilities.
Live on Kickstarter, the Peren Nera is now available at an early bird price of 418CHF (~S$590) and limited to only 200 pieces. Backers will receive the Peren Nera on genuine brown leather strap. Every Peren watch is manually assembled in Switzerland.
